Jewish Community Chaplaincy and Outreach

Connecting spiritually with older Jewish adults in both JSL and non-JSL residences is our most important mitzvah. A perfect example of KAVOD…honoring our Mothers and Fathers.

A few examples:

Reminiscence Group

A twice-monthly sing-along/schmooze-along for seniors in Jewish care facilities and other assisted and senior living communities.

Intergenerational Programming

Students from local Jewish schools are brought into various communities to interact with Jewish older adults. Many times these programs involve music that touches the soul. This intergenerational experience enriches the lives of both students and the seniors they visit.

Holiday Parcel Delivery

Keeping the Jewish connection with holiday parcels during High Holidays as well as weekly Shabbat kits. Additional parcels may be offered during Chanukah, Purim and Passover.

Shabbat Services

Led by Rabbi Dovid S. Polter, as well as parachaplain volunteers for Shabbat and holidays. Bringing ‘yiddishkeit’ (Jewish culture and tradition) to older adults throughout the community.

Friendly Visiting

One-on-one visits with either our community Chaplain or volunteer parachaplains help decrease isolation and provide community connection.  Click here to visit Rabbi Polter's Travelogue.

Volunteer opportunities

There are many ways you can help, from leading services to delivering packages to just holding someone’s hand. Click here to enrich the life of a senior adult by volunteering; please email form to Joanne Kristal (below) or mail to Jewish Senior Life - 6710 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48322.
