Get involved with the Friends & Family Society of Jewish Senior Life!
The Friends & Family Society of Jewish Senior Life provides social, cultural and inter-generational activities for older adults living in Jewish Senior Life residences. Through developing volunteer outreach, education and fundraising support, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality-of-life for our residents. We provide music, parties, field trips, musicals, an annual Chanukah party, ice cream socials, pizza parties – all complimentary events for our residents.
Your Membership Provides Help in the Following Ways:
- Socialization, encouraging residents to come out and mingle with other residents
- Decreases isolation, leading to an enhanced quality-of-life
- Promotes interaction between residents and the community
- Exposure to new ideas, encouraging the learning process
- A forum for reminiscing
- Allows our community to interact with our residents
- Promotes understanding between generations
- Promotes interests and challenges in new areas, broadening senior adults’ areas of interest
Opportunities for Adults
- Be a friendly visitor to a resident
- Serve refreshments at tea time
- Help at parties, special events such as Chanukah, holidays, special dinners
- Teach classes of your skills or interest (computer, knitting, woodwork, arts and crafts)
- Assist at the building store, café, nosh nook or gift shop
- Read to low vision residents
- Performance of your talent (playing music, leading singing)
- Lead group discussion (current events, book review, movie club, travel group, reminiscing activities)
- Visit the residents with your trained dog(s)
- Play board games, cards
Opportunities for Bar/Bat Mitzvah
- Help at parties, special events and holidays
- Read to residents with limited vision
- Play cards and board games
- Serve refreshments at tea time
- Assist in arts and crafts activities
- Help set and decorate a Sukkah
- Help with Focus Hope day
- Run classes of your skills or interest
- Performance of your talent
